Where it holds the line

A hydraulic cylinder's worst enemy is ingress — dirt and moisture dragged in on the rod destroy seals and contaminate the fluid. The wiper is the first line of defence: fitted at the rod gland mouth, its sharp scraping lip strips contamination off the rod on every return stroke while letting a controlled oil film pass. Single-acting elastomer wipers suit clean environments; double-lip and metal-cased designs handle harsh, abrasive outdoor service. Either way, they dramatically extend seal and system life.
