Where it holds the line

At high pressure, an O-ring tries to extrude into the clearance gap and shred itself. The back-up ring stops that: a hard, low-friction PTFE or polyamide ring sits on the low-pressure side of the seal, bridging the gap so the elastomer stays put. Supplied as solid, spiral or split (scarf-cut) rings for easy fitting, they extend O-ring and seal life dramatically wherever pressure climbs or extrusion gaps open up. Pair single rings for one direction or double them for bi-directional pressure.
