Where it holds the line

Compressed-fibre gaskets are the dependable mid-range workhorse for service flanges that don't need an exotic material. High-strength aramid and inorganic fibres bound in a nitrile elastomer matrix give good compressibility for a tight initial seal and enough recovery to cope with normal thermal movement. With a graphite-faced or anti-stick finish for clean release and proven resistance to oils, fuels, steam and mild chemicals, they cover the bulk of plant flange duties at a sensible cost.
